Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 28, 2026

This privacy policy explains how NetHound: Network Scanner (the "App"), an Android app by SixtyFour Labs, handles your data.

1. In short

  • NetHound does not ask you to create an account and does not collect personal information such as your name or email. We run no servers.
  • Network scans run on your phone. Discovered devices, the names and notes you add, saved scans and Wi-Fi maps are stored only on your device.
  • SSH, Telnet and camera passwords, SSH keys and Wi-Fi passwords are kept in Android's encrypted storage (Keystore).
  • The only feature that sends data to the internet is the internet speed test, which runs with your consent (M-Lab, see section 3). The App contains no analytics or tracking.

2. Data processed on your device

  • Network information: local IP addresses, device names, brands, open ports, service replies, Wi-Fi network names (SSID), BSSIDs and signal values. They are used only to show them to you and to keep the scans you save.
  • Location permission: Android requires it to see nearby Wi-Fi networks. NetHound never reads, stores or sends your location.
  • Camera permission: used only while scanning a QR label. No images are stored or sent.
  • Photos: a floor plan photo you pick for the Wi-Fi signal map is copied into the App's own folder.
  • Backup files: you choose what goes into a file made with "Back up and move". With passwords included the file is encrypted with AES-256 using your password; you decide where the file goes.

You can delete all of this by uninstalling the App or clearing its data in Android settings.

3. Internet speed test (Measurement Lab)

The internet speed test connects to servers of Measurement Lab (M-Lab), an open measurement platform. M-Lab publishes every test result together with your IP address as open research data. The App explains this and asks for your consent before the first test. Details: M-Lab privacy policy.

4. Ads

The free version of the App may show ads through Google AdMob: a banner under the list screens and a rewarded video that opens only from a button you press. When ads are active, Google may process: advertising ID and device identifiers, device information (model, operating system, language, approximate IP-based country), ad interactions and fraud prevention signals. Your network scan results are never shared with ad networks.

Users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland see Google's consent screen (UMP); you can change your choice under Settings → Ad privacy options. You can reset your advertising ID in Android under Settings → Privacy → Ads.

5. Purchases

The Pro version that removes ads is bought through Google Play. Google processes your payment details; we never see them. The App only checks on the device whether the purchase was made.

6. Responsible use

NetHound is meant for networks you own or are allowed to test. Camera logins are only tried with details you saved yourself; the App does no default-password guessing.

7. Children

NetHound is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (GDPR, KVKK, etc.) you may have the right to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your data. Because NetHound keeps its data only on your device, you control it directly. For ad data use the Google links above; for anything else contact us.

9. Changes

We may update this policy; updates are published on this page.
